40-50% subsidy on farm machinery and support for Custom Hiring Centres and Farm Machinery Banks.

About this scheme

SMAM increases the reach of farm mechanisation to small and marginal farmers and to regions with low farm power availability. It funds individual purchase of tractors, power tillers, harvesters, rotavators, seed drills, planters and plant protection equipment, and supports Custom Hiring Centres, Farm Machinery Banks and Hi-Tech Hubs so farmers who cannot afford machines can hire them. It also funds crop residue management machinery to control stubble burning, and testing and training institutions. Since 2022-23 it is implemented as a component of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.

  • 50% subsidy for small and marginal, SC, ST and women farmers and farmers in North Eastern states
  • 40-80% assistance for setting up Custom Hiring Centres and Farm Machinery Banks
  • Up to 80% assistance to FPOs and cooperative societies for CHCs of crop residue machinery
  • Free training on operation and maintenance of farm machinery

Who can apply

  • Individual farmers with valid land records
  • Self Help Groups, FPOs, cooperative societies, Panchayats and registered farmer societies
  • Rural entrepreneurs for Custom Hiring Centres
  • One machine of a type per farmer within the prescribed cycle

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card
  • Land record (khasra/khatauni)
  • Bank passbook with IFSC
  • Caste certificate for SC/ST applicants
  • Machine purchase invoice and serial number photograph
  • Passport-size photograph

How to apply

  • 1Register on the state agriculture machinery portal (linked from agrimachinery.nic.in)
  • 2Apply for the specific machine and generate a permit or token
  • 3Purchase the machine from an empanelled or approved dealer
  • 4Upload the invoice and undergo physical verification of the machine
  • 5Subsidy is transferred to the bank account through DBT
