Rainfed Area Development (RAD)
Integrated farming system support for rainfed areas combining crops, horticulture, livestock and fisheries.

About this scheme
RAD is a component of the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, now delivered through Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. It promotes Integrated Farming Systems in rainfed and degraded areas so a farm household is not dependent on a single crop. A typical IFS module combines crops with horticulture, livestock, poultry, apiculture, fisheries and agroforestry, together with on-farm water harvesting, in-situ moisture conservation and value addition. The aim is to reduce climate risk, improve nutrition security and stabilise income for farmers in areas without assured irrigation.
