Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
All-weather road connectivity to eligible unconnected rural habitations, improving market access for farmers.

About this scheme
PMGSY was launched on 25 December 2000 as a fully centrally funded scheme, later shifted to Centre-state sharing of 60:40 (90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan states). PMGSY-I provides new connectivity, PMGSY-II upgrades existing rural roads, and the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas covers security-sensitive districts. PMGSY-IV was approved in 2024 to connect 25,000 unconnected habitations with about 62,500 km of road by 2028-29. Better roads directly improve farmers' access to mandis, storage and services.
