National Bamboo Mission (NBM)
Support for bamboo plantation on non-forest land, nurseries, treatment units and bamboo-based enterprises.

About this scheme
The restructured National Bamboo Mission was launched in 2018-19 after bamboo grown on non-forest land was removed from the definition of 'tree' under the Indian Forest Act, freeing farmers to harvest and transport it without a permit. The mission follows an area-based, regionally differentiated strategy covering the complete value chain: quality planting material, plantation on farmers' fields and community land, primary processing and treatment units, product development centres, and market linkage. It is implemented through State Bamboo Missions with a Centre-state share of 60:40 (90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan states).
