Kisan Credit Card (KCC) / Modified Interest Subvention Scheme

Short-term crop loans at an effective 4% interest on prompt repayment, with collateral-free credit up to Rs 2 lakh.

About this scheme

The KCC scheme, introduced in 1998, gives farmers timely and adequate institutional credit for cultivation, post-harvest expenses, consumption needs and allied activities including dairy, poultry and fisheries. Under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS), the government provides 1.5% interest subvention to lending institutions so farmers get short-term loans at 7% per annum, plus a 3% Prompt Repayment Incentive that brings the effective rate down to 4%. Effective 1 January 2025 the collateral-free limit was raised from Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 2 lakh, and Union Budget 2025-26 announced raising the MISS loan limit from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Operative KCC credit has crossed Rs 10 lakh crore across about 7.7 crore farmers.
